“My Attempted” Fitness Blog Comeback & The 2015 IDEA World Fitness Conference
Posted by Josh at July 28th, 2015
After taking a hiatus from the blogging world for a few years, I have decided to make a return. Hopefully, my return will be welcomed with open arms…I am a little older (fighting it tooth & nail—thank God for botox), more mature, and maybe a bit wiser (if that’s possible, lol)! Without further ado, here is Josh Rogers Fitness: “Get Your Fit Together!” Blog. ENJOY…
On Wednesday, July 15th Leann, Scott, and I headed to the 2015 IDEA World Fitness Conference in Los Angeles, California. For those of you unfamiliar with the conference, it is like the Super Bowl of fitness conferences. 12,000 fitness professionals from around the world transcended upon the city of angels. That is a hell of a lot of egos trying to fit in a convention center. However, we all fit through the door and so began the 2015 #IDEAWorld Conference.
Day #1: Thursday, July 16th:
I awoke like a kid on the first day of school with my newest luluemon athletica apparel laid out and ready to go. Not only is it very important to crush all the workouts, but you have to look good doing so (insert lululemon athletica Hill Center). My first session of the day was LTS: LeHITT—a HITT training workout using equalizers and buddy system exercises (check out www.lebertfitness.com). Leann and Scott were in this class with me. Sorry Scott, but Lea and I got a kick out of watching him attempt to grapevine. God, I wish I had a video to share. Make sure to ask for a demonstration in his next Ultimate Class = PRICELESS!!! He even received an #IDEAWorld Inspiration Medal for his “grapevine.” The session was very resourceful, as I was able to take away several great ideas for equalizers and buddy exercises.
My next session was the “Million Dollar Personal Training Business,” which Lea attended with me. As we both sat there and processed the presentation, we simultaneously looked at each other and smiled realizing that our business plan was very similar to presenter Sherri McMillan’s own journey…SLOW & STEADY wins the race! This was actually one of my favorite lectures, as it just emphasized that we (RESULTS Fitness) were in the same league as powerhouse personal training companies, like McMillan’s Northwest Personal Training–the gold standard for personal training businesses across the country. A BIG pat on the back to RESULTS Fitness and our team!
My next session was “Extreme Equipment-LESS Boot Camp” with one of my favorites, Abbie Appel. I parked it on the front row and spent the next two hours performing combinations of equipment-less (better known as body weight HELL) circuits. I was selected to be a part of the video presentation, which motivated me to push even harder throughout the session–maybe I should of sat my ass on the back row, lol!!! Abbie was impressed by my skills, and awarded me the #IDEAWorld Inspiration Medal for her session (AKA Teacher’s Pet). Thanks doll–you moved up the ladder of my favs ; )
My last session of the day was a very beneficial one, “Marketing Strategies that Work.” This was presented by MindBody Online, which is the software system that provides our online booking, point of sale, marketing, etc. Make sure to download the smartphone MindBody app (book your RESULTS classes via touchscreen), if you don’t already have it. This will make your life much easier!!! I still might not be a MindBody online expert, but my skillz are now proficient. The day ended with dinner and the wildest dance party ever–12,000 fitness fanatics twerking to the latest gangsta rap tunes = EPIC!!!
Day #2: Friday, July 17th:
Woke up moving a little slow and tender in places. Decked out in another one of my latest lulu ensembles (perks of being an ambassador). My first session of the day–not one of my favs (No offense JG Fit–you were great!). It was titled Circuit Party 2015, which consisted of a two hour full body circuit party. The music and energy were terrific, and I took away several great ideas. However, I had the most annoying girl in my group, which entailed 120 minutes of listening to her obnoxious voice yell louder & louder; it’s unbeknownst to me how she was able to workout while talking so much…mussel please!!!
Session number two was a killer. However, I loved every minute of it. This session was 120 minutes of TRX Suspension Training (AKA TRX Body Blast–Next Generation). All of my clients and class participants know how much I love a TRX workout. Just wait till I incorporate some of these new exercises…”Burn Baby, Burn!!!” Reserve your spot @ www.resultsfitness.me/schedule.
My next session was about everyone’s favorite past time these days…SOCIAL MEDIA! This session was titled, “17 Social Media Tips for Your Fitness Career.” I learned so much in these two hours. I would highly recommend taking a course on ways to boast your business/brand via social media. The effect social media has on businesses and their success in today’s world is astonishing. Check out the amazing Amanda Vogel @ www.fitnesstestdrive.com.
My last session of the day was an intense 60 minutes of “LaBlast: Turn It Up” with Marc Lebert, which was a total body HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) = ASS KICKED. My evening consisted of Mexican grub and a “Big Gulp” skinny maragarita, proceeded by bed. So much for a wild & crazy Friday night in LA…
Day #3: Saturday, July 18th:
I woke up feeling well rested and ready for another beat down! Today’s schedule included BOSU Ball training; TRX: Secrets for Successful Rip Training; ShockWave; & The Runner’s Clinic. The first two sessions were great! I love BOSU workouts, and the RIP session educated me on the correct mechanics of coaching and performing various RIP training exercises.
Now for my most favorite session. Let me preface…I took my first ShockWave session at Atlanta Mania in 2012. I sign up for this session at every convention. And I would repeat it session after session, if it were offered. It is highly competitive, high energy, ass kicking, and the list goes on. Check it out @ www.shockwaveworkout.com.
Why do I love it so much? It was created by one of the premiere fitness icons in the industry today,Jay Blahnik (who helped design the new Apple watch), and World Champion Rower, Josh Crosby (creator of the Indo-Row–the rowing machines @ RESULTS). The team also includes Julz Arney (my all-time favorite), Amy Dixon (2015 IDEA Group Fitness Instructor of the Year), & Jeffery Scott. These individuals are my fitness icons. When I think of the world of fitness…Blahnik, Crosby, Arney, & Dixon are my role models. I want to be them when I group up, ENOUGH SAID! I have never attended a session with more energy in my life. This was Julz’s last ever IDEA World Fitness Conference as a presenter, and did we ever send her out with a BANG (literally, we blew the lights)! All the fitness gurus (Arney, Crosby, Dixon, & Scott) participated in the workout, even Super Bowl Champion, Brandon Ayanbadejo participated. It was EPIC!!! I was awarded another #IDEAWorld Inspiration Medal for my performance. I. WAS. DEAD! ShockWave Session (Julz’s farewell) was the highlight of the convention. Thanks for all you have done for the world of fitness, Julz. I adore you and will miss your face…Best Wishes!!!
I crawled to my last session, which thank goodness was a lecture. “The Runner’s Clinic” was very informative and provided me with many useful tips for the RESULTS Fitness Marathon Training Group (begins in late January 2016). Unfortunately, I was not one of the winners for the grand prizes (Schwinn Spin Bike, Spa Trip, 2016 IDEA World Fitness Conference Registration) in the drawing (winners of inspiration medals qualified for the drawing). However, I left with lots of goodies from the IDEA World Fitness Expo–thank you vendors!!!
I did not let my tiredness get the best of me on Saturday night. I met my best friend, Matt, and his family in Beverly Hills for a delicious meal at Mastro’s (seafood tower, filet, wine, wine, & more wine). We capped off the night bar hopping in West Hollywood.
Day #4: Sunday, July 19th: (Happy Birthday DAD)
REST…REST…REST…In-N-Out Burger!!! Can’t leave the West Coast without a little In-N-Out! No shame in this meal after 6 hour workout days!!!
Day #5: Monday, July 20th
Returned home INSPIRED, CONNECTED, & TRANSFORMED with a wealth of knowledge, ideas, and energy to share with my trainers, clients, & NashVegas Fitness Community = PRICELESS!!!
I am already looking forward to next year’s conference. For more information, visit www.ideafit.com.
